CHLOE DISAPPEARED FROM SCHOOL AND SAM FINDS HER SITTING ALONE ON A BENCH, LOOKING SAD
Sam: "Hey."
Chloe: "Should of known they'd call you."
Sam: "Chloe, I'm sorry about Brittany. I know how scary this is for you."
Chloe: "They had an assembly for her. Cheryl and Michelle were all crying and...I wasn't. I didn't want to."
Sam: "Why?"
Chloe: "Because there's no point. You don't cry when you see all those people get killed."
Sam: "I do, sometimes."
Chloe: "You cried for Dad?"
Sam: "Yeah, I did and for a lot of other people."
Chloe: "But why? I mean, if Dad can get killed for no reason and Brittany can be killed for no reason, why cry or do anything? Why even be born in the first place? What's the point?"
SAM BEGINS TALKING TO CHLOE IN A GENTLE VOICE
Sam: "You know, Chloe...when your Dad died, uh...I just thought I was gonna give up."
Chloe: "Why didn't you?"
Sam: "Because I had you...and you were the point. For a long time, you were the only point. And then, time went on and I, uh...I found that I had other people and friends and my work and...Chloe, bad things happen in this world and it's up to you to see the good things and make your life happy...and that really is the point."
Chloe: "Brittany seemed really nice. I wish I could have known her."
Sam: "Well, why don't you tell her that."
Chloe: "She's dead."
Sam: "It doesn't matter. You can still tell her (Chloe looks at Sam and Sam smiles at her tenderly).
CHLOE IS WRITING A LETTER TO HER CLASSMATE WHO DIED
Sam: "Chloe, sweetie, it's late. It's time to go to bed."
Chloe: "I'm going."
Sam: "Okay (Sam comes and stands next to Chloe)."
Chloe: "I wrote this to Brittany. Seemed kind of dumb at first but...do you mind if I don't show it to you?"
Sam: "It's your letter, Chlo. I don't mind (Sam kneels down next to Chloe)."
Chloe: "I guess it doesn't matter what I do with it now. Guess the point is that I wrote it (Sam nods)."
Sam: "Yup, that's the point."
Chloe: "What was he like...the guy who did it?"
Sam: "He was sad and lonely."
Chloe: "And he made other people sad and lonely?"
Sam: "Yeah, well, people who do these kind of things, they...they're so wrapped up in their own pain, they don't realize what they're doing and they really don't care."
Chloe: "At least he can't hurt anyone else. I guess that's the point too (Sam nods again). I'm proud of you, Mom."
Sam: "I'm proud of *you,* Chloe Waters (They hug)."
